In addition to the launch, the coalition partnered with Moongate Associates, an international consulting firm focussed on the formulation and analysis of international trade policy, to release new research that shows millions of American jobs rely on the US global value chain and contribute to the US economy.
While 98 per cent of the clothes and shoes sold in the United States are imported, the US industry provides nearly four million American jobs throughout the supply chain and that is why it is essential for the US Government to support that chain, said AAFA CEO and president Rick Helfenbein.
The retail industry has millions of US jobs from sourcing and logistics to finance and compliance and policies should recognize their importance, said Jonathan Gold, vice president for supply chain and customs policy for NRF.
US policymakers should appreciate the need for agreements and policies that expand free trade, not stymie it, said USFIA president Julia K Hughes. (DS)
