The results of a research carried out by Margot Berings, a PhD student at Ghent University, showcases that the Purotex mattress fabric has properties to reduce allergy symptoms. Purotex fabric reduces house dust mite allergens in the bed, helping people with allergy to sleep fresh and clean. Sensitivity to house dust mite allergens, found in most beds and mattresses, has a negative impact on the sleep quality and sleep comfort.
Berings conducted tests with 20 House Dust Mite Allergy patients, aged between 18-65. They were given bed covers impregnated with Purotex probiotics and after eight weeks, their allergy symptoms were examined. Berings found a significant overall improvement of Allergic Rhinitis (hay fever) symptoms and a notable improvement of life quality.
"Purotex uses the technology of active probiotics to clean up house dust mite allergen along with other allergen types. Applied on mattress or pillow textiles, they reduce the amount of house dust mite allergens by 93.7 per cent, two weeks after application. In other words, active probiotics create a fresh and clean sleeping environment. Probiotics are also used in yogurts to guarantee a healthy microflora and in hospitals as cleaning products to prevent resistant bacteria," the company said in a press release. (RR)
