The Fabric Touch Tester (FTT) from textile testing instruments maker SDL Atlas bagged the Grand Award in the ‘Equipment and Machinery Design’ category at the 2016 Hong Kong Awards for Industries (HKAI), from among a total of 234 entries. The instrument was jointly developed by the Hong Kong Research Institute of Textile and Apparel (HKRITA) and SDL Atlas.
According to SDL Atlas, the FTT provides a quick and scientific way to evaluate hand feel properties of fabrics, while measuring skin touch comfort both objectively and quantitatively. The Fabric Touch Tester (FTT) from textile testing instruments maker SDL Atlas bagged the Grand Award in the 'Equipment and Machinery Design' category at the 2016 Hong Kong Awards for Industries (HKAI), from among a total of 234 entries. This is made possible through incorporated sensors that calculate a fabric’s compression, friction, roughness, stiffness and bending properties.
“Through combining these indices, the FTT can predict a physical touch and hand value in one simple test,” SDL Atlas said. (AR)
