Euro area sees 7.6% YoY drop in industrial producer prices in Jul 2023

In July 2023, industrial producer prices decreased by 7.6 per cent year-on-year (YoY) in the euro area and by 6.6 per cent YoY in the European Union (EU). Prices fell by 0.5 per cent in the euro area and by 0.6 per cent in the EU during the same period compared with June 2023. In June 2023, industrial producer prices decreased by 0.4 per cent in both the euro area and the EU.

Industrial producer prices in the euro area in July 2023, compared with June 2023, decreased by 1.2 per cent for intermediate goods and by 0.9 per cent in the energy sector, while prices increased by 0.1 per cent for non-durable consumer goods and by 0.2 per cent for durable consumer goods. Prices in total industry excluding energy decreased by 0.4 per cent, according to estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the EU.

In the EU, industrial producer prices decreased by 1.2 per cent for intermediate goods, by 1.0 per cent in the energy sector, and by 0.1 per cent for non-durable consumer goods, while prices remained stable for durable consumer goods. Prices in total industry excluding energy decreased by 0.4 per cent.

The largest monthly decreases in industrial producer prices were recorded in Ireland at -8.1 per cent, the Netherlands at -2.6 per cent, and Sweden at -1.8 per cent, while the highest increases were observed in Latvia at 2.2 per cent, Slovakia at 1.7 per cent, and Croatia at 1.3 per cent.

Industrial producer prices in the euro area in July 2023, compared with July 2022, decreased by 24.2 per cent in the energy sector and by 4.0 per cent for intermediate goods, while prices increased by 5.1 per cent for durable consumer goods and by 7.6 per cent for non-durable consumer goods. Prices in total industry excluding energy increased by 1.6 per cent.

In the EU, industrial producer prices decreased by 21.5 per cent in the energy sector and by 3.9 per cent for intermediate goods, while prices increased by 4.6 per cent for durable consumer goods and by 7.6 per cent for non-durable consumer goods. Prices in total industry excluding energy increased by 1.6 per cent.

The largest annual decreases in industrial producer prices were recorded in Ireland at -39.5 per cent, Bulgaria at -18.1 per cent, and Italy at -13.8 per cent, while the highest increases were observed in Hungary at 18.8 per cent, Slovakia at 17.8 per cent, and Slovenia at 6.8 per cent.
