  • India's polyester yarn prices showed mixed trend, with FDY and POY yarns rising by ₹2 per kg in Surat despite sluggish demand, attributed to manufacturers increasing prices and dominating due to QCOs.
  • Meanwhile, polyester spun and polyester-cotton yarn prices fell in Ludhiana due to low demand.
  • In Mumbai, viscose yarn prices remained stable.
India’s polyester yarn prices showed mixed trend today. Polyester spun yarn remained bearish, and prices eased by ₹2 per kg in the Ludhiana market. But FDY and POY yarn were sold higher by ₹2 per kg in Surat market as manufacturers have increased prices in the same quantum. They are enjoying dominating position in the market after the implementation of quality control orders (QCOs). Polyester-cotton yarn prices eased by ₹2 per kg in Ludhiana market, but Surat’s polyester spun yarn and Mumbai’s viscose yarn prices remained stable. Trade sources said that current demand is very slow therefore prices are noticing downward trend. However, demand may improve in June as per seasonal trend.

Surat market has noticed a rise of ₹2 per kg in FDY and POY yarn in the last couple of days, but polyester spun yarn remained steady amid slow demand. A trader from the Surat market told Fibre2Fashion, “There was no support from demand side. But manufacturers have increased FDY and POY prices which caused rise in market prices of the intermediary product. They are dominating market as QCOs have restricted imports from foreign suppliers.”

According to trade sources, in Surat, 30 count polyester spun yarn was traded at ₹142-143 (approximately $1.71-1.72) per kg (GST extra), 40 count poly spun yarn at ₹162-163 (approximately $1.95-1.96) per kg, 50/48 fully drawn yarn (FDY) ₹119-120 (approximately $1.43-1.44) per kg, 75/72 FDY ₹109-110 (approximately $1.31-1.32) per kg, 75 bright yarn ₹109-110 (approximately $1.31-1.32) per kg, and 30 viscose compact yarn (local) at ₹199-200 (approximately $2.39-2.40) per kg (GST extra).

Ludhiana market noticed decline trend in polyester spun and polyester-cotton yarn prices. The prices eased by ₹2 per kg due to slow demand from fabric industry. According to the trade sources, downstream industry is facing slow demand due to various factors, but PC and poly spun yarn can see better demand in June as per seasonal trend.

In Ludhiana, 30 count PC combed yarn (48/52) traded at ₹203-213 (approximately $2.44-2.56) per kg (GST inclusive), 30 count PC carded yarn (65/35) at ₹190-200 (approximately $2.28-2.40) per kg, 20 recycled polyester fibre yarn at ₹106-114 (approximately $1.27-1.37) per kg, 30 count polyester spun at ₹154-160 (approximately $1.85-1.92) per kg (GST inclusive), and recycled polyester fibre (PET bottle fibre) at ₹74-76 (approximately $0.89-0.91) per kg.

However, steady trend was not seen in Mumbai market’s imported viscose vertex yarn and locally manufactured ring spun yarn. Traders said the prices of viscose yarn remained stable as mills and stockists are trying to hold current prices. But they are offering discounts in trade of bulk quantity. Imported 30 count viscose vertex yarn was priced at ₹183-188 (approximately $2.20-2.26) per kg, and local 30 count ring-spun viscose yarn at ₹188-194 (approximately $2.26-2.33) per kg in this market.

North India cotton prices noticed slight gains after rise in ICE cotton and domestic cotton futures. The prices went up by ₹25 per maund of 37.2 kg. Traders said that quality is not at par with the previous years. Therefore, mills buying was very limited. The prices may remain range bound in the coming weeks. About next crop, trade sources said that 50 per cent sowing is completed. Total sowing may decrease by 15-20 per cent from the last year.

Today’s arrivals decreased to 1,400 bales of 170 kg in north India. State-wise arrivals were as follows: 1,000 bales in Haryana, 200 bales in upper Rajasthan, and 200 bales in lower Rajasthan. There was no sizeable arrival in Punjab’s mandis. Cotton prices in Punjab ranged from ₹5,725 to ₹5,750 (approximately $68.75-69.05) per maund of 37.2 kg, while in Haryana, prices ranged from ₹5,650 to ₹5,750 (approximately $67.85-69.05).
