France’s consumer price index (CPI) rose 6.2 per cent year-on-year (YoY) in February 2023 after a 6.0 per cent increase in the previous month, as per the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE). Over one month, consumer prices are projected to increase by 0.9 per cent, after a 0.4 per cent rise in January.

The prices of manufactured goods are expected to rebound with the end of winter sales. The prices of energy are likely to slow down, as the effect of the increase in regulated electricity tariffs should be reduced by the fall back in petroleum product prices, according to the provisional estimate made at the end of the month by INSEE.

France’s Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) is anticipated to rise by 7.2 per cent YoY, after a 7.0 per cent surge in January. Over one month, it is expected to increase by 1.0 per cent, after a 0.4 per cent jump in the previous month.
