MESDAN® S.p.A. is an Italy-based renowned manufacturer of YARN SPLICERS and LABORATORY QUALITY CONTROL equipment. Founded in 1952 in Salò (lake Garda) in the early ’60s, in the ’70s it became well known worldwide for the precise craftsmanship of its mechanical hand knotters. In the early ’80s, Mesdan shifted to knotless yarn joining technology, implemented first on automatic winding machine. This new development gave a tremendous impact to the knotless yarn joining expansion and nowadays Mesdan is considered an unrivalled leader in yarn splicing technology.
In 1990, Mesdan established the MESDAN-LAB division which registered a fast growth, spanning from fibre testing to dyeing and finishing. Nowadays, a series of MESDAN-LAB equipment is considered a benchmark of testing, a reference standard.
In 2013 Mesdan entered the SAVIO group and during 2021 the entire SAVIO group was acquired by VANDEWIELE from Belgium, a world leader in mechatronics solutions (combination of mechanical and electronics engineering) to serve textile and electronics customers around the world. The year 2022 was marked by the adoption of a new look (like the new logo) in harmony with the companies of the VANDEWIELE.
Even while the MESDAN brand is particularly famous in the spinning sector, for the splicers and the lab solutions for the spinning mills (both fibre and yarn testing), MESDAN-LAB product range also includes a series of testing instruments for the fabric physical analysis, like Martindale (pilling and abrasion tester), Tensolab 4 and AutoDyn 3 (universal tensile strength testers), Burstmatic 2 (pneumatic bursting tester), Elmatic (high-capacity digital automatic tearing tester), Autowash (for the colour fastness to washing and dry cleaning), and Electronic Crock Meter (for the colour fastness to dry and wet rubbing). The range also includes ICI Pilling & Snagging Tester, Air Tronic and Water Proof (air and water permeability testers), Hoff-Lab Press (for the dimensional stability tests to steaming on ironing machines), Static Lab (for the fabric static electricity properties), and many more. MESDAN-LAB also supplies standard consumables, as well as calibration services.
In fact, in 2019 Mesdan obtained the accreditation by Accredia (the Italian certification body) to operate as a Calibration Laboratory (known as LAT), thanks to the adoption of the General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration, according to the ISO 17025 standard, the highest level of accreditation. This entitles Mesdan to issue officially recognised Calibration Certificates (for the accredited parameters/equipment) whose validity is equivalent to a document issued by a legal national metrological laboratory.
This is the reason why MESDAN-LAB is a reliable partner for weaving, dyeing, and finishing mills, as well as for customers who need top-quality equipment and service to monitor their production processes and meet the most demanding quality assurance protocols of their buyers, including international brands and retail stores.
Even the most exigent customers, like the third-party laboratories and the R&D institutes, have chosen MESDAN-LAB as a regular supplier of lab equipment. All the most famous international testing organisations have MESDAN-LAB equipment in their various locations (from China to South America, from India to the EU, etc). Of the various Mesdan instruments, they particularly appreciate the repeatability and reproducibility of the results, which can be obtained with minimal maintenance and assistance, regularly available directly from the manufacturer or from the local service team.
For instance, it is well known that the Mesdan Martindale, thanks to its construction solidity and design, guarantees higher regularity of movement and consequently correctness of the Lissajous drawing also in the very long term, compared to competitors’ machines that require frequent intervention for the adjustment of planar movement.
Since Mesdan is located in Italy, it has had the opportunity to be chosen as the main supplier by many world-famous Italian fashion brands for their R&D centres and their sub-suppliers’ production facilities, including recently for their leather and shoe product testing. Thanks to the experience acquired with the local textile industry, Mesdan has been able to approach many other important garment manufacturers, both in Europe and worldwide, and today has an impressive sales reference list.
