Business Needs

Sri Nachammai Cotton Mills Limited (SNCM) has been expanding and modernizing its plant over the years providing the needs of domestic as well as global garment. With a sound financial footing and consistently performing well over the years SNCM is surging ahead towards better prospects each year.

The company's IT infrastructure was based on Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0. It was also using Linux based proxy server called Squid Web Proxy and Sendmail for messaging. Both the application faced security threats, making the organization vulnerable to virus attacks and hackers. The company was incurring high to protect the IT infrastructure, maintain and manage it.

Solution

The emphasis of the new solution was to reduce administrative costs, provide easy management of users and services on the network. SNCM considered between Red hat's Linux based network infrastructure. However, the company finally decided to implement Microsoft Windows Server System based infrastructure.

The company deployed Microsoft Windows Server 2003 with Active Directory for its 50 users and desktops. It also implemented Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 to meet its communications and collaboration needs. To enhance knowledge sharing across the organization, the company deployed Microsoft SharePoint Services based intranet.

The company further strengthened security across the organization by implementing Microsoft System Management Server 2003 to automate security updates.

The team also deployed Remote Desktop, a feature of Windows Server 2003 that allows the administrator to manage the desktops and server from any location.
