Denim is a rugged type of cotton twilltextile which came into existence since the eighteenth century. Mostlyavailable in indigo blue color, it is the most sought after fabrics for peopleboth men and woman of all ages especially of the youngsters. Designers in Japan have developed a new high performance and elastic fibre for denims called DOW XLA.This new denim collection will have exceptional comfort, stretch and capabilityto withstand any harsh treatment without losing its authenticity.
Generally denim is made fromtightly woven twill. Lengthwise yarns are dyed with indigo or blue color whilethe horizontal yarns remain white. The yarns are made in such a way to have astrong twist, but this in itself affects the color of the denim fabric. The yarnsare twisted so tightly that the blue color is applied only on the surface, andthe centre of the fabric remains white. The blue strands are woven outside andgive color to the fabric, while the white yarns stay inside and make the fabriclook white from the inside. During the course of time, due to heavy washing andother harsh treatment of the fabric, the blue surface fades away causing thejeans to fade and look white.
DOW XLA is a fibre thatenhances the look of the fabric. They wrap the body gently, withstand harsh chemicaltreatments, and dry cleanings without losing its elasticity, shape, color, andtexture. This fibre does not shrink, even after multiple washing, and isresistant even to high degrees of heat. This fibre is specially developed to makeshape retentive garments that would accentuate the bodyline with a variety ofdenim finishes.
Dow Fiber Solutions is abusiness unit of The Dow Chemical Company. The new fibre is introduced as thenext generation XLA. It is said to maintain the look and feel of cotton denim, with no shrinkage, sagging, or bagging. Fashion insiders believe that this isthe only stretch solution for denim that would withstand harsh chemicaltreatments which would normally damage denim apparels.
Alice Roi, a reputed fashiondesigner from New York introduced her Fall 2007 collections of trousers, shirts, coats and skirts with XLA fabrics.
