In today's economy, people lookfor the source of competitive advantage more than ever before. There is alwaysa seeking for inspiration to sell, and channel the vendors to work harder. Theeighth India International Textile Machinery Exhibition (INDIA ITME 2008) is tobe held from November 15th to 22nd, 2008. Bangalore will play the host and the exhibition will take place at the 'BangaloreInternational Exhibition Centre' (BIEC) complex at Dasanpura Hobli, which is 10kms from Bangalore. India ITME Society organizes the exhibition series once infour years. The event will show case technological developments in machineryand components field and will be a platform for exchange of international products and ideas.

Textile industry has proved its resilienceduring the past decade. It has evolved from a domestic small scale industry toits current status of 'supremacy'. New innovations came with new wheels, loomsand spinning processes that changed the clothing manufacture forever. Technologicaladvancements have been drastic in capacity of shuttleless looms, spindleage, andother machineries. ITME has helped in the growth of textile, as well as thetextile engineering industry. The inaugural event was conducted in 1980, andthe upcoming event will be the successful eighth outcome.

State of the Art BIEC Complex:

The exhibition centre isequipped with the 'state of the art' facilities for the exhibitors and thebusiness visitors. It covers a total space of 42,500 sq. mtrs, consisting of 3big air conditioned halls, each having its own convention centres, andconference rooms along with food courts, office space, protocol lounges, andall other required infrastructure. The exhibition will promote technologicaldevelopments in the field of textile production right from the stage of makingfibres, till garment manufacturing. It will display latest products andtechnology, with all major textile engineering units, and manufactures participatingfrom all across the globe. The responses received from textile machinery andcomponent manufacturers worldwide are overwhelming, drawing participants frommore than 30 overseas countries. There are 700 confirmed exhibitors, of which450 are from India, and 250 are foreign units. Various visitors from South EastAsia and Middle East are expected to congregate here.

Constraints of the Event:

  • The exhibition had so far been organized in Mumbai, the city being one of the world's top ten centres of commerce by global financial flow. But there were some hurdles in this financial capital city like lack of infrastructure etc. Now, Bangalore being a smaller city comparatively, with limited hotels and accommodation facilities, it is doubtful whether the city would be able to accommodate more than 1, 00,000 visitors.
  • Bangalore airport being located on the outskirts of the city will prove cumbersome for the participants and visitors to commute during the days of the exhibition.

Despite all expectations andanticipated constraints, count down for the exhibition has started. The INDIA ITME2008 is expected to be more comprehensive than the previous one held in Mumbaiduring 2004. The forthcoming exhibition is expected to attract more than 1,25,000 textile visitors. It offers an excellent opportunity to textilemachineries to exhibit their technological advancements for increasedco-operation between the textile industries of various nations, and will be arewarding experience to both the visitors and the participants.
