Introduction:
Pakistan has the 45th largest economy globally; in terms of official exchange rates. The countrys textile industry is a major contributor to the economy in terms of foreign revenue and employment generation. It contributes to 8.5% GDP, and generates employment opportunities for 39% of the total manufacturing workforce. It is the fourth largest producer, and third largest consumer of cotton.
Textile industry in Pakistan contributes more than 50% of the countrys total exports. During 2008, of the total exports from the country, textile exports constituted to $7.21 billion USD, and garment exports were worth $3.25 billion USD. It has successfully proved its consistency in maintaining its export volume.
MEGATECH 2010 - The Largest Sourcing Destination:
To enhance the economic growth, and to match with the growth of the industry, there is a need for a novel multidimensional platform for the sellers in the country. MEGATECH Pakistan is an initiative crafted to serve as the largest, and all-embracing industry platform planned with an objective to bring together the best buyers and sellers from all across the globe. The exhibition will be a premium, multidimensional platform showcasing products and services in the industry featuring the latest and most recognizable names. The 8th edition of the International Machinery Exhibition of Garment & Textile Technology-MEGATECH Pakistan is scheduled from 4-6 March 2010 at the Karachi Expo Centre, in Karachi, the Commercial Capital of Pakistan. Karachi, being a cosmopolitan city adds flavor to the international marketing. The centre is well equipped with up to date facilities, and international standards creating a niche of its own kind. Participation from local and international textile and garment machinery manufacturers, distributors, and importers are expected. Leading textile and garment manufacturers, key decision makers of the industry, and senior Government officials are expected to be present at the event.

MEGATECH 2010 is planned with special emphasis on the emerging sectors of technical textiles, and textile engineering to accustom the local industry with latest technologies which will aid to further develop the textile industry sector in Pakistan.
Technical Textiles: Pakistan is poised to move from conventional textiles to technical textiles, as this is gaining a positive momentum in various fields like agriculture, defense automotive engineering, medicine and many more.
Textile Engineering: Textile spare parts are being manufactured in many cities of Pakistan like Faisalabad, Lahore and Karachi. More than 4,000 textiles related industrial units are functioning in Pakistan; Out of which, 90% of the units use latest and imported machineries. The market size for local parts is estimated to be around USD 300 million, of which only USD 100 million is captured by the local industry. The event would be an initiative to enhance export of textile spare parts with international standards.
3rd International Technical Textile Conference:
Adding a feather on the cap, the event organises the 3rd International Technical Textiles Conference which will prove to be a key feature of MEGATECH 2010. This will be a specialized conference planned in concurrence with the event, to further acquaint the local industry with the emerging developments in technical textiles. The conference will be addressed by international speakers, with strong proficiency in their respective fields. They will share their experiences and expertise to enlighten the local industry with the latest developments emerging in this sector.
