The Textile sector has been evaluated by the Textile Ministry taking intoconsideration, the prices at month-end to evaluate the performance of the sector.In this report the Handloom specific data has been segregated in order toprovide a comprehensive view of this particular sector.


To boost cotton trade, the Government of India has takenmeasures like liberalizing raw cotton exports since July 2001, providing withthe system of allotment of cotton export quota in favor of different agenciesand traders. Exports of cotton from the country are under Open General License(OGL) since July 2001. Due to these efforts, during the year 2008-09, thecotton exports from the country reached at US$ 850 million including 35 lakhbales.
