The proverbs like "Carding is the heart of Spinning" and "Well Card is half spun"signifies the importance of Carding operation in Spinning mill. Carding operation serves following objectives:


  • Individualization of the fibre.
  • Disentanglement of neps
  • Formation of Sliver for next operation


Improper carding seriously affects the final quality of yarn and leads to higher imperfections and neppiness. The process parameters like speed, wire point density, gauges of component parts and mechanical condition needs to be taken care for producing high-quality yarn

It is justified to appreciate that different fibres or blends require different set of process conditions for utilizing the strong characteristics and shielding the weak traits. Regenerated cellulosic fibres have made their presence strongly felt in providing functional and aesthetic characteristics to the apparel and home textiles. Three generations of regenerated cellulosic fibres namely Viscose, Modal and Lyocell are jewels in to days world and are increasingly being processed independently or in blends with natural as well as synthetically.


The present paper is an attempt to provide information onprocessing regenerated cellulosic fibre on carding machine.
