The average monthly trade of global nonwovens was $2.28 billion in the last quarter of 2020. It remained the same in the H1 of 2021. Now it is expected to move up by 4.30 per cent in the H2 of 2021 to reach a monthly average of $2.38 billion over the monthly average exports of nonwovens in the H1 of 2021.
The global trade of nonwovens is expected to move up in the upcoming period of 2021 as the world recovers from the pandemic and the procurement climbing up since the beginning of 2021, especially in western economies like Canada, Mexico, the US, Germany, the UK, and other major European countries. Vaccination programmes in the western countries have successfully been accomplished in the current year and the demand of nonwovens have been surprisingly high.

Nonwovens are significantly used in hygiene, wipes for personal care, construction, automotive applications and civil engineering, filtration industries and food and beverages sector. The hygiene products, wipes, construction articles and food products account for more than 60.00 per cent of the total consumption of nonwovens across the world every year on an average.
Due to the pandemic, nonwovens have recorded robust use in the year 2020. Now people have become more cautious towards the use of hygiene and personal care products. The top globally traded products of technical textiles category were medical-hygiene, industrial, protective, and automotive textiles where nonwovens play an important role. According to experts, this would continue for the coming two to three years.
In 2020, China, Germany, the US, Italy, and Japan were the top exporters of nonwovens in the world and accounted for 55.26 per cent of global nonwovens exports. In 2021, the same trend is expected to continue but the US is expected to move up to the second place after China, followed by Germany, Italy, and Japan. These countries are expected to contribute 56.02 per cent share of global nonwovens exports.
In 2020, the US, Germany, China, Vietnam, and Japan were the top importers of nonwovens in the world and accounted for 33.28 per cent of the global nonwovens imports. In 2021, the same trend is expected to continue but China is expected to move up to the second place after US, followed by Germany, Japan, and Vietnam. These countries are expected to contribute 33.55 per cent share of global nonwovens imports.
The monthly average exports of nonwovens from Europe were $904.51 million in last quarter of 2020. It slightly increased to the monthly average of $915.96 million in the H1 of 2021 with a rise of 1.27 per cent. Now it is expected to move up further to the monthly average of $1,034.64 million in the H2 of 2021 with a surge of 12.96 per cent over the monthly average exports in H1 of 2021.
The monthly average exports of nonwovens from China were $625.25 million in last quarter of 2020. It moderately dropped to a monthly average of $574.92 million in H1 of 2021 with a decline of 8.05 per cent. Now it is expected to move up to a monthly average of $831.54 million in H2 of 2021 with an increase of 44.64 per cent over the monthly average exports in H1 of 2021.
The monthly average exports of nonwovens from the US were$151.86 million in last quarter of 2020. It significantly surged to a monthly average of $173.80 million in H1 of 2021 with a rise of 14.45 per cent. Now it is expected to move up further to a monthly average of $255.61 million in H2 of 2021 with a surge of 47.07 per cent over a monthly average export in H1 of 2021.
The monthly average exports of nonwovens from India were $43.85 million in last quarter of 2020. It shot up to a monthly average of$47.57 million in the H1 of 2021 with a rise of 8.49 per cent. Now it is expected to move down to a monthly average of $42.27 million in the H2 of 2021 with a drop of 11.14 per cent over the monthly average exports in H1 of 2021.
