Dr. M. Sivakumar is a Masters’ degree holder in Textile Technology. After completing his Ph.D. in Textile Technology, he completed a research project “Development of Silk Knitted fabrics and garments from Indian Silk” from China Textile University.
He has served in a number of prestigious organizations in the course of his career, such as the Central Silk Technological Research Institute, Central Tasar Research & Training Institute, Central Silk Board and National Institute of Fashion Technology. For the sericulture project “Soil to silk” for the Department of Sericulture, he served as Expert in Post Cocoon Technology in a Japanese firm.
He was honored with the “Excellent Apparel technologist” award for the year 1999. He is also the proud recipient of the Dr. Triguna Gold Medal National Award from Institution of Engineers in 1986. He is an editorial member in the Indian Journal of Fibre & Textile Research.
He has presented and published a number of Technical papers in National and International journals. He is the first Indian Technologist to produce Silk Knitted products from Indian Multivoltine Silk, Tasar silk, Muga Silk and Eri silk as per Chinese technology. He has made a significant contribution in introducing an improved, commercially acceptable method of softening Tassar Cocoons with special reference to RAILY Cocoons using hydrogen peroxide to produce quality reeled silk.
