Dr. R.G. Panneerselvam, hails from Weaver's family of Durugam village in the Aarani Taluk of Tamil Nadu, known for weaving contemporary Jacquard Silk Sarees. Having the foundation of Diploma in Handloom Technology, he entered into the profession of teaching and R&D activities at Indian Institute of Handloom Technology (IIHT), Salem, and Weavers' Service Centre (WSC), functioning under the Development Commissioner (Handlooms), New Delhi. He has completed A.M.I.E. (Textiles) of IEI, Kolkata, Masters of Engineering (Quality Engineering and Management) from Birla Institute of Technology, Ranchi, and pursued his Ph.D. studies in Handloom & Textiles at Gandhigram Rural Institute, Gandhigram, Dindukal District. Tamilnadu. After spending good time serving as Deputy Director (Weaving) at WSCs, Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Kancheepuram, he retired as Director of IIHT, Varanasi, in November 2016. After retirement, he has been actively engaging himself in the areas of product diversification, process modernisation for the Handloom sector and personal Training for the Handloom weavers. As Master Assessor and Master Trainer he is associating with TSC and conducting training and assessment of the Trainers and Assessor for Handloom sector. He is also serving as Associate Professor in the Dept. of Fashion Technology, KCG College of Technology, Chennai. He has in his credit, many research papers published in various journals about new fabric structures, CATD for Handlooms and the socio economic enrichment of Handloom weavers. He authored a book titled 'Weaving Face- Flip- Face Fabric using Orthogonal Weft Tapestry Weave'. He is Gold medalist for securing First Rank in Diploma and also in AMIE examination. The Institution of Engineers (India) felicitated him as an Eminent Engineering Personality, in recognition to his valuable contribution in the field of Textile Engineering.
