Toolika has achieved her Masters degree in Textiles and Clothing from Delhi University (Lady Irwin College) in 1996 and then Diploma in Export Management from FTDC (Foreign Trade Development Center) in 2004-5. She has also done a 3 month course on "Archaeology of Clothing" from the Oxford University. At present she is studying 'Introduction to Sanskrit Etymology' from IGNOU.

She was associated with NIFT first as an Assistant Professor and later as an Associate Professor from Aug 2005 to June 2011, before leaving for the United Kingdom. At Present she is an independent researcher in the field of Fashion. Her Interest areas include History of Costume especially Indian, Surface Design Techniques, Sustainable and Ethical Fashion and Fashion Studies.
