Emphasising effortless luxury, the brand celebrates the fusion of heritage and contemporary style, crafting timeless fashion that resonates with the modern woman’s desire for chic, traditional elegance. Founder Sumeer Kaur talks to Fibre2Fashion about the brand’s ‘Rang’ collection.
Tell us about the inspiration for ‘Rang’.
The collection ‘Rang’ is inspired by India’s rich heritage and architectural elegance. It honours Banarasi traditions in a regal dance of tradition and poise. The range is harmonious textile symphony, unveiling the exquisite beauty of Banarasi textiles adorned with intricate floral motifs and quietly narrating tales of timeless allure.
How many pieces are there and how much time it took to bring the entire edit?
The range is of 31 pieces spread across 8 colour schemes of red, fuchsia pink, yellow, green, blue, black, white and purple. The manufacturing time is estimated at about two months and the concept to launch time can take up to five months, depending on various factors.
Tell us about the making process – what fabrics and age-old crafts have you worked with?
We have majorly used brocade for our sarees, lehengas, sharara sets and suits because the entire collection is about the textile and the heritage associated with it. In hand-embroideries, we have had the privilege of working with expert craftsmen who did an excellent job for our festive edit with techniques involving thread, zari, stone and handwork.
What do the colours used in the edit signify for you?
As mentioned earlier, the range is of 31 pieces spread across 8 colour schemes of red, fuchsia pink, yellow, green, blue, black, white and purple. Each colour holds importance in Indian culture. For instance, red is worn on festivals like Karva Chauth and the third day of Navratri, black is a classic for evening affairs like Diwali cards parties. Other shades like yellow and green are often worn at wedding ceremonies like the Haldi function. There is a colour for each festival or event in India.
What new styles have you experimented with that are suitable for pre-wedding functions?
The saree makes for the perfect elegant pre-wedding ensemble. Even though it is a classic and there is nothing new about this silhouette, we have used colours like purple and electric blue in corset style blouses. Our range of lehengas are ideal for intimate gatherings and small functions that require intricate handwork yet lightly embellished designs.
What makes this edit different from the past ones?
We have dedicated this range to express Lashkaraa’s take on amalgamating tradition with modern sensibilities which is exactly what the contemporary woman is all about. ‘Rang’ is crafted in traditionally vibrant and festive hues yet the designs are not old school. Our colour scheme caters to all kinds of customers, from modern minimalists to traditional ethnic wear lovers.
How people’s preferences for wedding wear have changed in the last few years. What has become outdated and what is in for wedding wear trends?
As the guest or even the bride, customers today want to wear something that they are comfortable in so that they can enjoy each moment of their special events. The silhouettes may be the same lehenga and saree styles but the colours, fabrics, and obviously cuts have evolved to better suit today’s style. We have seen a bold choice for blouses like strappy halter blouses with lehengas like in our Black Embroidered Brocade Lehenga, cleavage bearing deep neck blouses like our White Embroidered Brocade Lehenga, corset style blouse like our Lime Green Embroidered Lehenga; the list goes on.
What is the starting price of the Rang collection?
The price of our garments starts from ₹10,000.
