Our production model prioritises quick turnaround time and waste reduction
ZYOD is a tech-enabled fashion manufacturing platform offering seamless, eco-friendly solutions from design to delivery for global fashion brands. Known for its rapid turnaround times and flexible MOQs, ZYOD leverages AI to predict fashion trends, aiming to reshape the industry with responsible production practices and innovative technology. In an interview with Fibre2Fashion, Co-founder Ankit Jaipuria explains why there is rapidly increasing demand for the platform’s innovative services across global markets.

How is the fashion manufacturing industry adapting to the increasing demand for sustainable and eco-friendly practices, and what innovations are leading this change?

The fashion manufacturing sector is witnessing a notable shift towards embracing sustainability as a core principle, with a growing emphasis on incorporating eco-conscious materials, minimising waste generation, and upholding ethical labour standards. Spearheading this transformative journey are innovative approaches such as AI-powered predictive modelling for trend forecasting, the adoption of just-in-time (JIT) production methodologies to optimise resource utilisation, and the integration of sustainable materials and manufacturing processes throughout the supply chain. This progressive mindset underscores a collective commitment within the industry to foster environmental and social responsibility, and long-term sustainability, thereby shaping a more conscientious and resilient fashion landscape for future generations.

In what ways has technology, such as AI and automation, transformed the production processes in fashion manufacturing, and what future advancements do you foresee?

The advent of transformative technologies, exemplified by Artificial Intelligence (AI) and automation, has revolutionised production methodologies, ushering in an era of heightened efficiency, diminished wastage, and enhanced predictive capabilities. As we navigate the horizon of technological innovation, the trajectory points towards a future characterised by deeper AI integration across design and production spheres, increased automation functionalities, and the emergence of novel sustainable materials and processes. These forthcoming advancements are poised to catalyse a paradigm shift in the manufacturing landscape, propelling industries towards unprecedented levels of productivity, sustainability, and operational excellence.

What are the current challenges in supply chain management within the fashion manufacturing sector, and how are companies addressing these issues to ensure efficiency and transparency?

Modern challenges in supply chain management include coordinating with a complex network of suppliers, ensuring timely deliveries, and maintaining transparency throughout the entire process. In response to these challenges, organisations are strategically deploying cutting-edge solutions, including the integration of ERP systems, fostering enhanced channels of communication and collaboration with supplier networks, and harnessing the power of advanced data analytics to refine and optimise various facets of supply chain operations. This effort highlights a commitment to strengthening supply chain resilience, improving efficiency, and promoting sustainable business practices in a changing market.

How are shifts in consumer behaviour, particularly the demand for fast fashion versus slow fashion, influencing manufacturing strategies and production timelines?

The changing consumer preferences are shaping the fashion industry in two significant ways. First, the fast fashion trend demands quicker production cycles and a wide variety of styles to keep up with constantly changing demands. This requires manufacturers to speed up their processes and frequently update their collections. On the other hand, the slow fashion movement focuses on sustainability, advocating for high-quality products that are made to last. This trend encourages the production of fewer, but better, items that have a lower environmental impact.
To navigate these contrasting trends, manufacturing strategies are evolving. Companies are now strategically aligning their operations to cater to both fast and slow fashion markets. This means they are developing flexible production processes that can quickly adapt to fast fashion’s rapid pace while also incorporating sustainable practices to meet the demands of slow fashion enthusiasts. This dual approach shows a deep understanding of the current market landscape and highlights a comprehensive commitment to fulfilling consumer expectations. It also reflects a broader commitment to sustainability and ethical business practices, ensuring that companies can meet diverse consumer needs while promoting environmental responsibility.

How are global economic fluctuations and trade policies affecting the fashion manufacturing industry, and what strategies are manufacturers employing to navigate these uncertainties?

Global economic fluctuations and changing trade policies significantly impact supply chain stability, production costs, and market access. To address these challenges, manufacturers are adopting strategies such as diversifying their supplier base, investing in advanced technologies, and developing contingency plans. By sourcing materials from multiple suppliers across different regions, manufacturers reduce dependency on any single source and safeguard against disruptions. Investments in automation, AI, and data analytics enhance efficiency, optimise operations, and improve responsiveness to market changes.
Overall, these proactive measures help manufacturers navigate the complexities of global economic fluctuations and trade policies, maintaining supply chain stability, controlling production costs, and securing market access.

What inspired the founding of ZYOD, and what gap in the market were you aiming to address with your platform?

We drew inspiration from the inefficiencies prevalent in the fashion manufacturing sector, particularly concerning overproduction and the challenge of promptly addressing modern consumer demands due to a lack of agility. Recognising these shortcomings, we aspired to conceptualise and develop a digital platform that could revolutionise apparel manufacturing. This platform aims to enhance agility within the industry, enabling brands to operate more efficiently and effectively while minimising inventory losses.

What sets the company apart from other clothing manufacturing companies in terms of scalability and precision?

ZYOD stands out for its unique strategy that prioritises both scalability and precision through a powerful technology platform. JIT production ensures materials are ordered and used only when needed, minimising waste and unnecessary storage costs. Flexible minimum order quantities (MOQs) cater to a wider range of customer needs. Additionally, an advanced AI system analyses vast amounts of data to generate accurate fashion forecasts.
By leveraging these technological advancements, ZYOD minimises waste by producing only what is required, making the process cost-effective and environmentally friendly. The JIT approach allows for rapid turnaround times, getting products to market quickly. The combination of flexible order quantities and AI-powered forecasting enables ZYOD to adapt swiftly to changing market demands, providing customers with a significant competitive edge.

Can you elaborate on how ZYOD’s technology-enabled platform simplifies the manufacturing process for fashion brands?

ZYOD’s platform seamlessly incorporates a cutting-edge Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, operating in real-time to augment transparency and operational efficiency across the production spectrum. This innovative system empowers brands to closely track production status instantaneously, thereby mitigating the intricacies typically associated with conventional manufacturing processes. As a result, it fosters a streamlined workflow, facilitating a seamless transition from the design phase to final delivery, thus optimising operational efficacy and ensuring the timely fulfilment of orders.

How does ZYOD ensure the quality of the fashion products it manufactures, especially with such rapid turnaround times?

We take immense pride in the quality of our garments, and this commitment is reflected in our meticulous quality control process.  This process is far from a one-time check; it is a multi-layered system with over 20 checkpoints strategically placed throughout the entire production cycle.  Imagine each checkpoint as a quality hurdle that every garment must overcome. Fabrics are meticulously inspected for any imperfections, seams are rigorously tested for strength and consistency, and every detail, from zippers to buttons, undergoes close scrutiny. This comprehensive approach ensures that only the highest quality materials and construction practices are used.
But we do not stop there. We leverage technology to further enhance our quality control. An advanced real-time ERP system acts as the central nervous system of our operation. This system provides a comprehensive overview of every stage of production, allowing for constant monitoring and identification of any potential issues. Think of it as a real-time X-ray of the entire production process. With this level of transparency, we can take immediate corrective actions when even the slightest deviation from our quality standards is detected. This ensures that any problems are addressed swiftly and efficiently, preventing them from impacting the final product. The combination of these rigorous checkpoints and the real-time oversight provided by the ERP system empowers us to consistently deliver garments that meet the exacting standards.
