How do you see the prospects of apparel retailing in India? Which is the largest apparel hub in India and what are the factors attracting consumers to this region?
India is a ripe market for foreign brands to target right now and the future for apparel retail looks bright enough. The relaxation in FDI norms has been a key factor responsible for this scenario.
While more and more foreign brands are setting up shop, domestic players are also growing aggressively. As increasing number of players are shifting to online retail, growth can be expected not only from the tier 1 but also from the tier 2 and tier 3 markets.
Exposures to global fashion, as well as, high disposable incomes are contributing to a boom in western wear. Western wear is immensely popular and there are increasing levels of brand consciousness among customers. From affordable fashion to luxury brands, all are setting up shop in India.
Delhi has emerged as the largest retail hub according to findings of our latest study on apparel industry’s footprint in India. High per capita income, large number of traditional outlets as well as aggressive growth of branded stores and malls are some contributing factors. With its expertise in traditional craftsmanship, Delhi is also a leading destination with respect to apparel exports.
Delhi has an established legacy when it comes to traditional Indian wear. It is a well known shopping destination for wedding trousseau and authentic Indian attire. The growth of hypermarkets, malls and brand outlets as well as the availability of an ever increasing target base attracts shoppers to the capital city of India.
