What inspired you to incorporate ancestral art from Montparnasse into your Autumn/Winter 2016 collection?
Montparnasse is one of the oldest areas in Paris and we were impressed by the street art and the vintage yet chic feel it offers. So we translated beautiful architecture and interiors into our collection.
What has the response been to your Mon Passé collection showcased at Lakme Fashion Week (LFW)?
After a great show at LFW, response has been tremendous. A lot of brides-to-be and grooms are appreciating the styles and motifs of this collection.
What changes have you witnessed in demand for occasionwear and bridalwear in the last couple of years?
We love how nowadays people are open to experimenting with edgy styles and willing to try new colours. They have moved on from the conventional styles of lehenga, blouse and dupatta and are opting for drape sarees, cold shoulder gowns and cape crop tops.
Which prints and fabrics will be in demand this wedding season, according to you?
Prints that have a story around them add certain elements to ensembles. Pure fabrics such as silks and raw silks work well for drapes and help the motifs to stand out. So, they are popular this season.
Are modern Indian grooms willing to experiment with their looks? What kind of designs and colours are popular among them?
Yes, the modern groom is experimenting in terms of colours. Apart from the clichéd red and gold, grooms are opting for emerald and burgundy hues. They are open to trying interesting drapes and prints.
Indian brides are experimenting with colours for bridal outfits. Which unconventional shades do you think will be trending this season?
Burgundy is a favourite this season and the modern brides and grooms love it. Emerald, blush and midnight blue work well this season.
Which silhouettes are likely to dominate the market during the upcoming festive season?
Attached flowing capes and drapes are dominating the festive season. They add elegance and give a royal feel to the ensemble.
If you had to give just one advice to the bride-to-be for a bridal outfit, what would it be?
A wedding affair has plenty of functions and a bride-to-be must be careful not to keep her look similar for any two functions. She can go for a traditional look for the wedding, and for sangeet she can opt for a modern ensemble keeping the look contemporary. The bride should opt for different hues for each function. It is also important for brides not to over-accessorise and pick accessories according to their outfits.
Which fashion trends should strictly be avoided?
Avoid wearing too much jewellery just because you are a bride. It is normal for a bride to apply make-up, but it should be done keeping in mind the place you are at.
As designers, what steps do you hope the expected Textile Policy should incorporate to help you boost your business?
As designers, our USP is creating custom-woven designs. However, it gets very difficult to maintain exclusivity. This restricts us and we also have to explore our creativity to the fullest. We want the expected Textile Policy to incorporate measures against plagiarism.
