Team ITF met union Hon'ble Textile Minister Mr Giriraj Singh & presented a comprehessive report on ‘Opportunities & Challenges for Indian Textile & Apparel (T&A) Sector’.

As per the submission, with suitable policy & directional changes, India can utilize the China plus One opportunity in Apparel exports and improve our current monthly run rate of $ 1.5 Billion Apparel exports in a steady state manner.

On a Comparison basis, China’s monthly run rate of exports currently is at $ 12 Billion in Apparel alone.

Scale, Competitiveness, Specialization, Integration, Diversification of markets are the themes presented by ITF as a roadmap for growth.

By way of building a ready to cut dyed Fabric eco-system in India, the SME apparel sector can improve efficiency & cost competitiveness.

And also the team highlighted the need for the creation of semi-integrated & integrated manufacturing eco system to handle the large volume commodity Apparel exports.

To grab more market share from the current 2% in US MMF Apparel market which is valued at $ 35 Billion, we need to create knowledge partnership with MMF specialized countries & also do similar exercise within Indian clusters.

As market diversification efforts, we need to work with non traditional markets like Japan which have $ 23 Billion potential. Team presented an idea of selecting 5 exporting companies each from 5 major clusters & handholding them as a team. This will enable positive mindset & experience towards these markets.

Improving Cotton yield to 1000 kg/ hectare can be the game changer for entire value chain of Textiles & also boost farmer income.

Satelite mapping of cotton cultivation, New plans to boost E-Commerce Fashion exports & Structural issues like Import duties on Cotton, Inverted duty structure on MMF also were discussed in detail.

Hon. Minister assured his commitment towards the important points particularly A. taking all round efforts to boost Textile & Apparel exports to create more jobs B. preparing a concrete working plan to improve yield of cotton as a top priority agenda.

Hon. minister also expressed his willingness about directing all policy measures to strengthen the competiveness of manufacturing in textile sector.
