Nextt, a leading home textiles company based in Dallas, US, has developed a new fabric variant called Alpha Cotton by blending cotton and polyester to create a fabric of high thread-count, and has received US patent #9,131,790 B2 for the same, according to a high-profile company official.

“Nextt, the marketing arm of Mumbai, India-based Alok Industries has created Alpha Cotton, which it uses to make bed sheets, with a blend of cotton and polyester which creates a luxury, high thread-count linen at an affordable price. Most often, the cloth produced of this variant will be 55 per cent cotton and 45 per cent polyester,” Arun Agarwal, CEO of Nextt told Fibre2Fashion.com. “This fabric dries faster, washes easier and does not collect as much bacteria as traditional sheet fabrics.”

Talking about the US patent #9,131,790 B2 received by Nextt for this fabric, he said, “The company has received a patent for yarn and fabric production of blended cloth between 300 and 1,000 thread count. The patent covers yarn and fabric made of at least 51 per cent cotton.”

Alpha Cotton – the revolutionary fabric – is primarily used to make sheets and already enjoys annual sales of approximately $1 billion in a category expected to grow to more than $2 billion within two years.

Nextt developed and started selling Alpha Cotton in collaboration with Alok Industries some years back, when the prices of cotton were high. Simultaneously, the company was pursuing a patent for it.

With the US patent, Nextt has now ensured that they will continue to be a market leader in the sale of Alpha Cotton, according to Agarwal.

Global patents have also been applied for, he informed. (MCJ)
