"It is not justified to put regulatory duty to protect two or three industries against 5,00,000 people. These industries are providing employment to only 1500 families whereas 2,00,000 families are associated with the SME sector," PYMA (Sindh-Balochistan zone) chairman Danish Hanif told a Pakistani leading daily. The production capacity of the polyester filament/synthetic yarn (PFY) manufacturing units has remained the same since its installation. Further, there has also been no modification to improve its manufacturing capacity.
Opposing the implementation of the regulatory duty, Hanif said that already there is 6.23 percent (on average) anti-dumping duty on the Chinese PFY. Further, there is also high custom duty on the polyester yarn. On the contrary, there is only 25 per cent domestic production of polyester fabric against its total requirement. (RR)
