Insights

  • TESTEX has launched the TESTEX MICROPLASTIC label, setting a new standard for reducing textile microplastic emissions.
  • Using advanced LDIR technology, the label certifies textiles tested for particle emissions per ISO standards.
  • As a member of The Microfibre Consortium, TESTEX collaborates on reducing fibre fragmentation, sharing data to support sustainability goals by 2030.

Launching the new TESTEX MICROPLASTIC label, TESTEX sets a higher standard for reducing microplastic emissions from textiles, empowering brands and manufacturers to minimise their environmental footprint.

The TESTEX MICROPLASTIC label signifies that textiles have undergone rigorous testing to assess and minimise their microplastic emissions. These tests are conducted in accordance with international standards, including ISO 4484-1:2023 and ISO 4484-2:2023.

TESTEX uses a Laser Direct Infrared (LDIR) Imaging System with the latest generation of quantum cascade lasers (QCL) to analyse the release of particles, either from washed textiles or wastewater. This measurement technology allows the determination of number of particles, morphology (shape & appearance), distribution & dimensions, and the type of polymer.

Key benefits of the TESTEX MICROPLASTIC label include microplastic emission control, transparency and sustainability leadership for brands, retailers and manufacturers.

TESTEX joins the Microfibre Consortium

TESTEX is delighted to announce that it has become a member of The Microfibre Consortium,  a non-profit, science-led, organisation with a vision to work towards zero impact from fibre fragmentation from textiles to the natural environment. TESTEX is also in transition to become a signatory to the Microfibre 2030 Commitment, and looks forward to working together jointly with the industry to reduce microplastic shedding and benefit from one of the largest databases for fibre fragmentation globally.

With full access to the Microfibre Consortium’s data portal, TESTEX can upload its own test reports and compare and analyze the results with (anonymized) data from global members. Collaboration between the individual members is a key focus for the organization, and some important milestones have already been achieved, such as collaboration guidelines with ZDHC. There are still lot of challenges to face until 2030, but TESTEX is convinced that it can benefit from the community and working closely in this field.
