Carhartt Work In Progress (WIP), a US-headquartered apparel company, has reinterpreted the Converse One Star, fusing utilitarian military inspiration with contemporary design. Operating in a design space that it has defined, Carhartt WIP has adapted the iconic, workwear products of Carhartt for an audience that moves seamlessly between social scenes.

Inspired by military bags and detailing adapted for the streets, the collection shows how mainstays in fashion and culture can evolve and remain relevant while highlighting the overlap between workwear and streetwear that has always existed.

"Since very early on we’ve incorporated military fabrics and details into our clothes, but with the One Star we wanted to do this with a clean, modern approach. The sleek contrast outsole and robust Cordura fabric are how we’ve translated this element of Carhartt WIP’s DNA into a contemporary, utilitarian sneaker," said Wilfried Atzert, global brand director of Carhartt WIP.

The One Star silhouettes feature a Cordura fabric upper with accompanying hangtag and a military- inspired bandolier heel stay webbing with D-ring hardware detail. Additionally, the tongue logo patch is made from the coated tarp-type material seen on the trailer coverings of longdistance trucks. Presented in three colourways, classic black, olive and white, the sneakers are functional and robust, but also considerate in their design. (RR)
