Footwear brand Puma recently launched an £80 pair of shoes designed to be worn while playing video games. With appearance of Sci-Fi ankle socks, the comfortable and grippy ‘active gaming footwear’ are targeted for professional video gamers, also called esports athletes, with whom the company reportedly held ‘extensive talks’ while designing.

The shoes, available to buy now in the United Kingdom and the United States on Puma's website, come in four different modes: Seek mode, Attack mode, Cruise mode and Defence mode, according to British media reports.

Matt Shaw, team head of digital marketing and gaming for Puma, revealed on Twitter that the word ‘active’ is used to describe how the product supports players as they transition between positions during gameplay. “You can imagine people leaning forward in their seats with their elbows on their knees (SEEK/ATTACK), or people reclining backwards with their controllers in their laps (CRUISE/DEFEND),” he wrote.

However, Smith admitted the shoes were unlikely to improve a gamer's performance.

They're reportedly designed to be used both at home and in arena s with thousands of fans where esports athletes play tournaments.
