Chief minister of India’s Tamil Nadu state MK Stalin recently laid the foundation stone of a manufacturing unit of Taiwanese footwear firm Dean Shoes at SIPCOT Park in Jayankondam in Ariyalur district.

It will be the first company to be set up in the industrial park at an investment of ₹1,000 crore (~$118.5 million) and is expected to generate 15,000 jobs.

The chief minister then participated in a government event at Kollapuram, where he inaugurated 507 projects, completed at a cost of ₹87.94 crore, in Ariyalur and Perambalur. He laid the foundation for 53 projects coming up in both the districts at a total cost of ₹120 crore.

In three-and-a-half years, the state government has signed memoranda of understanding to bring in investments worth ₹10 lakh crore that can generate 31 lakh jobs, Stalin said.

“Tamil Nadu is going through a renaissance in industrial development,” he was quoted as saying by media reports from the state.
