In the adidas Kouza, craftsmanship and storytelling collide as resilience, mobility, and breathability provide the principle foundations for a silhouette that defies convention. Borrowing its name from an ornamental plant native to East Asia which changes across seasons, Dingyun Zhang’s adidas Kouza centers on the concept of transformation. An exaggerated heel guard subtly nods to the motifs present throughout all of the designer’s work, while an extended outsole and taped seams create a duality between the shoe’s mesh upper and rubber casing. Inspired by adidas’ Beijing 2008 Boxing Boot, the new silhouette continues a lineage of tradition and innovation, while paying homage to the designer’s home country.
“I’m obsessed with the idea of transformation, and how nothing is as it seems” says Zhang “the adidas Kouza embodies the oscillation between form and function while retaining elegance and style”.
The two new iterations of the Dingyun Zhang Samba, meanwhile, take the silhouette’s bold foundation and reimagine it entirely in suede. Drawing on the deft color palettes of abstract modernist art works, the new looks include a tonal gray make-up and a brown make-up with a striking orange tongue, laces, and a white heel tab.
Eternally seeking to push the boundaries of form and function, the latest adidas Originals by Dingyun Zhang capsule collection arrives on 18th October via select retailers and CONFIRMED.
