The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) witnessed a significant transition as the newly elected board of directors, headed by president SM Mannan Kochi, assumed office for the term 2024-2026 recently.

The formal handover took place during the 41st annual general meeting held at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara, Dhaka.

Joining president Kochi in the new leadership lineup are key figures including first vice-president Syed Nazrul Islam, senior vice-president Khandoker Rafiqul Islam, and vice-presidents Arshad Jamal Dipu, Md Nasir Uddin, Miran Ali, Abdullah Hil Rakib, and Rakibul Alam Chowdhury.

This dynamic team is poised to steer the garment industry towards continued growth and innovation.

The comprehensive restructuring extended beyond the board, encompassing directors from Dhaka and Chittagong.

Notable members from Dhaka include Shahidullah Azim, Asif Ashraf, and Shovon Islam among others, while Chittagong’s representation includes figures such as Mohammed Musa and Amzad Hossain Chowdhury.

The consolidation of leadership under the Sammilito Parishad, spearheaded by Kochi, underscored a unified vision for the industry’s advancement.

His ascension marks a pivotal moment as he succeeds Faruque Hassan, inheriting the responsibility to uphold the association’s legacy of excellence and service.

The outgoing board facilitated a seamless transition, ensuring continuity and efficiency in BGMEA’s operations.

During the AGM, critical matters were addressed including the adoption of audited accounts for 2022-2023 and the approval of the budget for 2023-2024. These deliberations underscored the board’s commitment to fiscal responsibility and transparency, essential for sustaining the industry’s competitiveness.

Earlier, the clean sweep achieved by the Sammilito Parishad in the BGMEA elections reflected a vote of confidence from the stakeholders, affirming their trust in the new leadership’s capabilities.

As the industry navigates evolving challenges and opportunities, BGMEA stands poised to champion innovation, sustainability, and ethical practices under the stewardship of Kochi and his team.
