Amazon India recently signed an agreement with Kudumbashree, a poverty eradication and women empowerment programme of the Kerala State Poverty Eradication Mission for its initiative called Amazon Saheli. Amazon will support, train and empower women entrepreneurs associated with the organisation and provide a marketplace for them to showcase products.
Kudumbashree has more than 1,000 community development societies reaching more than four million women across 14 districts in Kerala.Amazon India recently signed an agreement with Kudumbashree, a poverty eradication and women empowerment programme of the Kerala State Poverty Eradication Mission for its initiative called Amazon Saheli. The Saheli team will provide the women entrepreneurs several benefits to enable them start selling online at zero initial cost, according to a news agency report.
They will also be provided seamless on-boarding assistance, imaging and cataloguing, product listing, subsidised referral fee and free account management.
The initiative will focus on categories like grocery, home and fashion accessories. Amazon has already conducted a pilot workshop and within the first three weeks of the pilot, has started receiving orders from Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Delhi, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
Kudumbashree was launched by the Kerala state government in 1997 to eradicate poverty in rural and urban areas through community development schemes, under the leadership of local self governments.
Launched in November 2017, with SEWA and Impulse Social Enterprise, Amazon Saheli currently has a diverse range of products listed by women entrepreneurs. It works with 17 partners with the reach of 100,000 women entrepreneurs. (DS)
