Australia's apparel imports from China reached $3.294 billion during the first three quarters of the current year, 2023. Among these imports, trousers and shorts dominated, accounting for 18.74 per cent of the total with a value of $617.353 million.
Jerseys and dresses ranked as the second and third most imported garments by Australia from China during the first three quarters. Jersey imports amounted to $450.569 million, making up 13.68 per cent of the total, while dresses contributed 11.72 per cent with a value of $386.212 million. Shirts and T-shirts also featured among the top five, with import values of $348.253 million and $251.316 million, respectively, representing 10.57 per cent and 7.63 per cent of the total, according to trade data from Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro.
The import values of the next top five products were as follows: jackets and blazers at $187.429 million (5.69 per cent), innerwear at $172.190 million (5.23 per cent), nightwear at $153.758 million (4.12 per cent), socks at $106.654 million (3.24 per cent), and baby wear at $83.986 million (2.55 per cent).
In the previous year, 2022, Australia imported apparel worth $4.876 billion from China, with trousers and shorts remaining the largest category at $960.964 million, representing 19.70 per cent of the total apparel imports, according to TexPro.
