According to Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro, Australia’s imports of baby wear decreased by 17.43 per cent in 2023 compared to 2022. In 2022, Australia imported baby wear worth $218.214 million. This decline in imports is attributed to economic uncertainty. Earlier import figures were $201.982 million in 2021, $167.670 million in 2020, and $169.574 million in 2019.
China was the dominant supplier of baby wear to Australia, with imports amounting to $23.245 million during January-February 2024, representing 55.11 per cent of Australia’s total imports of $42.180 million in the same period. Among the top three suppliers, Bangladesh held a 21.93 per cent share, and India held a 12.53 per cent share, according to TexPro.
In 2023, imports from China totalled $98.964 million, accounting for 54.97 per cent of Australia’s total baby wear imports. Imports from Bangladesh were valued at $35.400 million (19.66 per cent) and from India at $26.798 million (14.88 per cent) for the same year.
