The imports by Europe from Bangladesh were slightly higher than the shipment of the corresponding period of last year. The inbound shipment was noted at $8.818 billion in January-March 2022 when it soared 35.67 per cent from the imports of $6.499 billion in January-March 2021. Earlier, it was recorded at $6.898 billion in January-March 2020 and $7.132 billion in January-March 2019, according to Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro.
Earlier, apparel imports by Europe from Bangladesh stood at $36.953 billion in 2022, which was 15.31 per cent of its total imports of $241.320 billion. The partner country remained the second-largest supplier for the trade. The imports from Bangladesh were 26.89 per cent higher from the shipment of $29.122 billion in 2021. The trade dented during the COVID period and eased down 12.75 per cent to $23.494 billion in 2020 from $26.927 billion in 2019. However, it bounced back 23.96 per cent during the year 2021.
As per TexPro, Bangladesh was not in such a strong position in the imports of home textiles by Europe. The western block imported home textiles worth $167.406 million from Bangladesh, which was 2.35 per cent of its total imports of $7.138 billion during January-March 2023. The Asian nation was ranked 10th in the trade.
