According to Fibre2Fashion’s market insight tool TexPro, the imports from Bangladesh dipped 19.99 per cent from the shipment of $261.004 million in January-February 2023.
In 2023, Canada’s apparel imports were valued at $10.858 billion, with Bangladesh ranked as the third largest supplier after China and Vietnam with a share of 13.24 per cent. The imports from Bangladesh amounted to $1.437 billion in the last year.
During the last six years, Canada’s apparel imports from Bangladesh peaked at $1.736 billion in 2022. It jumped 35.19 per cent from $1.284 billion in 2021. After touching the peak in 2022, the trade eased 17.19 per cent to $1.437 billion in the following year. The inbound shipment from Bangladesh was noted at $1.122 billion in 2018. It gained 15.54 per cent to 1.296 billion in 2019 but dropped 21.62 per cent to $1.016 billion in 2020. The trade bounced back 26.41 per cent to $1.284 billion in 2021 after the COVID-19 pandemic.
As per TexPro, trousers & shorts were the most dominant product in Canada’s apparel imports from Bangladesh in January-February 2024. The imports of trousers & shorts was $83.828 million, which was 42.13 per cent of Canada’s total apparel imports from Bangladesh. The imports of T-shirts were noted at $26.655 million (13.40%), shirts $23.542 million (11.83%), jerseys $19.954 million (10.03%) and innerwear $8.911 million (4.48%). Next top five apparel products that were imported by Canada from Bangladesh were nightwear, baby wear, sportswear, skirts and jackets & blazers.
