Belarusian officials recently met director of the Russian Footwear Union Aleksandra Andrunakievich at the Textillegprom federal trade fair in Moscow and discussed the problem of declining demand for leather and leather goods both in Russia and Belarus. An agreement was arrived at for joint measures to support leather and footwear enterprises.

A delegation from Belarusian state light industry concern Bellegprom headed by its chief Tatiana Lugina attended the trade fair in Moscow, a news agency reported.

Bellegprom was represented by Orsha Linen Mill, Gronitex, Lenta, Slonim Worsted and Spinning Factory and Polesie.

Both sides noted the need of cooperating to protect the common market from illegal imports, to support exporters, and to supply the industry with domestic raw materials.

Lugina also met Russian deputy industry and trade minister Viktor Yevtukhov and chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission Mikhail Myasnikovich and discussed product labeling—considered the main area of cooperation in the light industry—including the protection of the Eurasian Economic Union domestic market and supplying enterprises with domestic raw materials.
