China's apparel exports to Russia soar 30% to $2.27 bn

China's textile trade with Russia has grown stronger in the recent times. During January-September 2023, China's apparel exports to Russia surged by 30.09 per cent, reaching $2.775 billion. Russia ranked as the 10th largest market, holding a 2.51 per cent share of China's total apparel exports. 

At the 10th China-Russia Investment Cooperation meeting in Beijing, top leaders from both countries committed to enhancing investment cooperation. The meeting, co-chaired by Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang and Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Belousov, highlighted the growing economic partnership. 

China's apparel exports to Russia increased by 30.09 per cent to $2.775 billion in the first three quarters of 2023, up from $2.133 billion in the corresponding period of 2022. This growth follows a 6.73 per cent decline observed during January-September 2022, coinciding with the outbreak of war between Russia and Ukraine. The conflict, which saw widespread Western support for Ukraine, led to Russia forging closer ties with China, according to Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro. 

In 2022, China's apparel exports to Russia fell by 6.42 per cent, totalling $2.835 billion, down from $3.029 billion in 2021. Previously, these exports were valued at $2.814 billion in 2020 and $3.361 billion in 2019. 

In the first three quarters of 2023, trousers and shorts dominated China's apparel exports to Russia, contributing 19.70 per cent to the total. Socks accounted for 16.13 per cent, jerseys 11.90 per cent, innerwear 7.82 per cent, and accessories 6.59 per cent of the total apparel exports from China to Russia, as per TexPro.
