China’s Fenix Garment Limited is going to set up a high-end garments manufacturing industry in Bangladesh Export Processing Zone Authority’s (BEPZA) Economic Zone (EZ) with an investment of $39.70 million. The garments company signed an agreement with BEPZA to this effect at BEPZA Complex, Dhaka on December 4, 2022.

Fenix Garment will produce annually 10 million pieces of different types of high-end garment products including sports jackets, motorcycle safety jackets, coveralls, hospital gowns, PPEs, luggage, backpacks, etc, as per the manufacturer’s proposal, according to a press release by BEPZA.

BEPZA executive chairman major general Abul Kalam Mohammad Ziaur Rahman assured BEPZA’s complete support for setting up the industry and starting operations. The chairman urged the investor to make optimum use of the land for factory construction. He also requested that the factory building be built in such a manner that its rooftop can be used for producing renewable energy.

“I have been in Bangladesh for the past 12 years as well as operating two factories in Cumilla and Chattogram EPZ. Fenix Garment is going to be our third venture under BEPZA,” said Ma Zhuang, chairman of Fenix Garment Limited. He appreciated BEPZA for providing a one-stop service to run the business smoothly inside the economic processing zone (EPZ).

Ali Reza Mazid, member (investment promotion) of BEPZA, and Ma Zhuang, chairman of Fenix Garment Limited, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations. The factory will create employment opportunities for 15,820 Bangladeshi nationals, added the release.

It is worth mentioning that BEPZA EZ is the largest venture of BEPZA located at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar, Mirsharai, Chattogram on 1138.55 acres of land. BEPZA has signed agreements with a total of 15 companies including Fenix Garment to establish factories here. The total proposed investment of the companies is $363.65 million. Three companies have already started the construction of factory buildings. BEPZA expects one of the factories to be the first to start manufacturing by early 2023.
