The novel coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic is not likely to cause further closure of garment factories across Cambodia as initially feared, the country’s ministry of labour and vocational training said recently. Ministry spokesman Heng Sour said garment exports to Europe and the United States, however, will be affected if the outbreak continues.
Fifty factories had suspended operations due to raw material shortage, but 17 out of those are now back in action after China recently resumed the supply of raw materials, Sour was quoted as saying by a Cambodian newspaper report.
