India's readymade garment exports rise 13.99% YoY to $1.235 bn in Aug

Exports of readymade garments of all textiles in August this year were worth $1.235 billion compared to $1.083 billion in August last year—a 13.99 per cent rise, according to preliminary data on India’s merchandise trade for the month released recently. Exports of cotton yarn, fabrics, made-ups and handloom products were worth $1.297 billion in August compared to $833.95 million in the same month last year—a 55.62 per cent increase.

India’s merchandise imports in August 2021 were worth $47.01 billion, a rise of 51.47 per cent over $31.03 billion in the same month last year and an increase of 17.95 per cent over $39.85 billion in August 2019.

India’s merchandise imports in the April-August period this year were worth $219.54 billion, an increase of 81.75 per cent over $120.79 billion in April-August 2020 and a marginal increase of 4.35 per cent over $210.39 billion in the same period in 2019, an official release said.

The trade deficit in August 2021 was $13.87 billion compared to the trade deficit of $8.2 billion in August 2020, while it is $55.9 billion during April-August 2021 compared to $22.7 billion during the same period of the previous year.
