Following directions from Indian textiles secretary Ravi Capoor, the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) has started gathering information about manufacturers of protective face masks and suits in Surat and the south Gujarat region to curtail price hike and shortage of these crucial personal protection equipment (PPE).
According to Capoor, HLL Lifecare Limited, a government of India enterprise under the ministry of health and family welfare, has been appointed as the nodal agency for the official distribution and selling of face masks in India. SGCCI president Ketan Desai said manufacturers of face masks and suits are required to sell their products to HLL Lifecare, or else the government will take legal action against manufacturers and distributors, according to a report in a top English-langiage daily.
