The International Apparel Federation (IAF) opened its first regional office recently at the Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PRGMEA) House in Sialkot. It will extend support to Pakistani apparel firms in exports, capacity building and compliance. This pilot initiative may lead to similar regional offices in other countries.
This office, inaugurated on September 27, will form an active link between PRGMEA’s member companies and IAF’s global network and knowledge, IAF said in a press release.The International Apparel Federation (IAF) opened its first regional office recently at the Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PRGMEA) House in Sialkot. PRGMEA also signed an agreement with the Dutch National Fashion & Textile Association Netherlands (MODINT) on the occasion to support Pakistani apparel industry. Both sides will exchange information on policies and regulations on trade and investment and updates on apparel production.
The inaugural event was attended by Pakistan’s state minister for textiles and commerce Haji Akram Ansari, Dutch ambassador to Pakistan Ardi Stoios-Braken and IAF president Han Bekke.
The IAF office will open new avenues for the textile industry for liaison with international buyers and leading brands, PRGMEA central chairman Ijaz Khokhar said. (DS)
