Iran’s garment output rose by 20 per cent during the first nine months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21-December 21, 2019), according to industry, mining and trade minister Reza Rahmani, who recently told domestic apparel makers that the garment sector growth indicates promotion of domestic production and the government will combat smuggling.

After the ban imposed on the import of clothing, domestic units are making efforts to boost the quality and quantity of their products, according to Iranian media reports.

Boosting domestic production has been one of the major strategies that Iran has been following in the past two years to increase its independence.

Providing the required working capital for the production units and offering them facilities is one of the major measures being pursued by the government to support such units.

The government’s programs for the promotion of domestic production are going to save $10 billion for the country in the next two years.
