Among the Asian countries, imports from China stood at 900.445 billion yen ($8.964 billion), registering a decrease of 11.8 per cent year-on-year, the data showed.
During January-June 2016, Japan imported apparel and accessories worth 72.950 billion yen ($726 million) from the EU, down 0.9 per cent year-on-year. The Far Eastern country also imported 7.808 billion yen ($77.73 million) worth of clothing and accessories from the US, down 23 per cent.
Meanwhile, value of Japan's import of textile yarn and fabrics dropped 7.6 per cent year-on-year to 438.538 billion yen ($4.365 billion) during the period under review. A bulk of these imports valued at 388.401 billion yen ($3.866 billion) were supplied by the countries in the Asian region, with China alone accounting for 240.412 billion yen ($2.393 billion), while imports from Asean nations stood at 88.217 billion yen ($878.25 million).
Japan imported yarn and fabric worth 29.648 billion yen ($295.16 million) from the EU countries, whereas its imports from the US were valued at 12.777 billion yen ($127.20 million), during the same period. (RKS)
