The Redress Design Award has announced that the Redress Takeback programme is available in 34 locations, throughout Hong Kong, through its partnership with Inditex, the group behind fashion favourites including Zara, Pull & Bear, Massimo Dutti, Bershka, and Oysho. The Redress Design Award is one of the leading sustainable fashion design competitions.
The strategic alliance with Inditex not only increases the number of collection locations, but expands the footprint of the programme in Hong Kong and Macau, giving more people an easy and transparent way of giving their clothing a second life. Collection boxes are now in all stores, according to Redress. The Redress Design Award has announced that the Redress Takeback programme is available in 34 locations, throughout Hong Kong, through its partnership with Inditex, the group behind fashion favourites including Zara, Pull & Bear, Massimo Dutti, Bershka, and Oysho. Once a clothing is collected from partners, it is sent to Redress to be sorted and redistributed. Luxury, high quality items in good condition will typically be sold at one of the regular second-hand pop-up shops to raise money for Redress and the environmental work the company does. If it is in good condition, the middle layer of clothing is sorted and sent to an appropriate charitable organisation in Hong Kong. For items in poor condition, or for the ones the company is unable to find a suitable recipient, Redress works with recyclers to recycle or downcycle the fabrics into something that can be used again. The goal of the company is to always prolong the life of clothing already in the ecosystem, Redress said.
Redress’ Takeback programme is just one way the company is working towards a more circular, sustainable fashion system. The company provides a channel for unwanted used clothing, while also normalising buying second-hand fashion. Ultimately, Redress’ vision is to make a significant, positive impact on the amount of clothing that is sent to Hong Kong’s landfills each year, according to Redress.
The collection boxes at Zara, Pull & Bear, Massimo Dutti, Bershka and Oysho accept menswear, womenswear, and childrenswear clothing and accessories. The boxes in Zara Home accept home textiles, except duvets and pillows with stuffing, Redress said in a media statement.
