SAARC Development Fund (SDF), the cross-border umbrella financing institution for member states of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation, is planning an e-commerce platform for seamless trade of goods and services across member states and funding start-ups to boost regional entrepreneurs, according to SDF CEO Sunil Motiwal.A proposal for the same is under finalisation, he told a news agency. The plastic SAARC money card can have denominations of all the currencies in the region.
As a mere 4 per cent of the total trade of SAARC member states takes place within the region now, that can be significantly raised by initiatives such as e-commerce, Motiwal said summarising the outcome of the recent two-day SDF Partnership Conclave in New Delhi. (DS)
