The Dhaka-Mymensingh highway was blocked on Sunday morning by workers from Mondal Intimates Limited under the Pallmall Group at Bagher Bazar in Gazipur.

Workers from Asrotex Limited in Sreepur's Natun Bazar also went on strike demanding a minimum attendance bonus of Tk 1,000, along with hikes in their tiffin allowances and salaries in accordance with their pay grades, according to domestic media outlets.

The army and industrial police were deployed to manage the situation.

The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) said 27 factories in Ashulia and six in Gazipur suspended operations yesterday as workers blocked the highway.
