The Sri Lankan apparel industry could lose up to 100,000 jobs this year, according to estimates by Sri Lankan Apparel Exporters Association (SLAEA), whose chairman Rehan Lakhany said that would represent about 30 per cent of the workforce. The association foresees a big issue in the next six months as there is simply no loading for factories.

The government relief package of LKR 50 billion ($250 million) was quite small compared to the requirements, he told Fibre2Fashion in an interview.
