An agreement was signed between Mohammad Hatem, first vice president of BKMEA, and Syeda Ishrat Fatema, team leader of Sarathi, to provide wage subsidy to 400 RMG workers to help them retain their jobs.
With the help of BKMEA, Sarathi project will identify small and medium scale factories in the country that are struggling during the second wave of the pandemic based on specific selection criteria, as per Bangladeshi media reports.
Sarathi- Progress through Financial Inclusion, jointly funded by MetLife Foundation and Swisscontact, works with commercial banks and RMG factories to bring RMG workers, especially women, within the sphere of formal banking services.
Fazlee Shamim Ehsan, director, BKMEA; Md. Saifur Rahman, head of communications, MetLife Bangladesh; Farzana Sharmin, joint secretary (compliance cell), BKMEA; Rumana Akhter Tulee, first vice president, Bank Asia Limited; and Salma Akhter, senior advisor-partnerships & advocacy from Sarathi were also present at the virtual signing ceremony.
