According to Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro, Turkiye ranked as the third largest supplier, holding a market share of 11.57 per cent of Germany’s apparel imports between January and June 2024. This represents a 9.38 per cent decline from $2.504 billion during the same period in 2023. Turkiye's share also dropped from 12.32 per cent of Germany’s total apparel imports of $20.336 billion in the first half of 2023. Previous trade data indicated that Turkiye's share peaked at 12.32 per cent during this period.
In 2023, Germany imported apparel worth $40.739 billion, of which $4.739 billion came from Turkiye, representing 11.62 per cent of the total. Turkiye has retained third place in Germany's apparel imports since 2019, with China and Bangladesh being the largest suppliers.
In 2019, Germany's apparel imports from Turkiye amounted to $3.632 billion, making up 9.38 per cent of Germany’s total apparel imports of $38.746 billion. Although overall imports declined to $36.958 billion in 2020 due to the pandemic, Turkiye’s exports to Germany increased to $3.721 billion, raising its share to 10.07 per cent, according to TexPro.
Following the pandemic, Germany’s apparel imports rose to $41.791 billion in 2021, with imports from Turkiye increasing to $4.337 billion, lifting Turkiye’s market share to 10.38 per cent.
By 2022, Germany’s apparel imports had reached $46.586 billion, with $5.159 billion coming from Turkiye, representing 11.08 per cent of the total. The pandemic benefitted Turkiye by helping it increase its share in Germany’s apparel market. However, Turkiye has not been able to overtake China and Bangladesh, due to the large trade volume difference.
